Board appoints new Chief Executive Officer
The Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Matthew Gerard as Chief Executive Officer of the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board. Gerard most recently served as Associate Director, Business Services and Treasurer, of the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board.
“We reviewed several excellent and highly qualified candidates as part of the recruitment process, and we feel incredibly fortunate that Matthew will bring his wealth of professional and administrative skills to our school board. With more than a decade of executive leadership experience in Ontario public education, Matthew has held responsibility for finance, facilities, capital planning, information technology, and transportation among other portfolios,” says Paul Brown, Chairperson of the Board.
Prior to joining the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board, Gerard served as Coordinating Superintendent, Business Services and Treasurer of the Waterloo Region District School Board, and he has extensive leadership experience overseeing large Ontario school boards.
As Chief Financial Officer for these school boards, Gerard led organizations with annual operating budgets exceeding $750 million, successfully delivering balanced multi-year budgets that integrated long-term capital planning and ensured financial sustainability.
“A passionate champion for public education, Matthew has supported the sector provincially with leadership positions on the Ontario School Board Insurance Exchange (OSBIE); Council of Senior Business Officials (COSBO), and as a member of the Ontario Public School Boards’ Association’s (OPSBA) Labour Relations Committee,” says Brown.
“I am incredibly honoured and humbled by this opportunity to join the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board as Chief Executive Officer,” says Gerard. “I consider it a privilege to be entrusted by the Board with this position, and I truly look forward to working in collaboration with KPR staff, families and community partners to make great things possible for students. Public education should be the great equalizer, and I believe there is always more we can do to make that true for every student.”
Gerard is a Chartered Professional Accountant, Master of Business Administration and Chartered Director with extensive professional designations and certifications.
He will join KPR in his new role October 19, 2026.
